Watermelon Text Tutorial
This is a really quick & easy tutorial, I'm not sure how useful it will be, but it was fun to write! Before you begin, you will need to download the presets. Unzip these into a temporary file. Move Watermelon_skin.bmp into the Pattern folder, Melon.pbv and Watermelon_skin.psc into the Preset folder and open Watermelon_pips.bmp into Paint Shop Pro.
1. Create a new image, 500x200 pixels, with a transparent background. Select a green as your foreground colour - for this tutorial, I used #008000.
2. Choose the Font tool. I used Casual Toss, but experiment with other fonts to see what you like the best. Set the font colour to your foreground colour & make the size between 48 & 72 (it will depend on what you're writing & what font you are using). Make sure Antialias and Vector are selected. Type some text.
Hollow text 3. Click on the Vector Object Selection tool. Right-click on your text & choose Convert Text to Curves/As Single Shape. Right-click on the text again & choose Properties. Set Style to Stroked & Width to 3.
4. On the Layers Palette, right-click on the vector layer & choose Convert to Raster
5. Go to Image/Effects/Sculpture and choose Watermelon_skin from the drop down menu.
Selected text 6. Select the Magic Wand tool. Make sure that Feather is set to 0. Click within the first letter of your text to select it. Holding down the SHIFT key, click within the other letters as well. When the insides of all the letters are selected, go to Selections/Modify/Expand and expand the selection by 3.
7. On the Layers Palette, make sure you're on Layer 1 (layer 2 is the converted vector layer that contains the outside of the text.)
Flood Filled text 8. Select the Flood Fill tool. In the Tool Options palette, make Fill Style Pattern, Blend Mode Normal, Paper Texture None, Match Mode None & Opacity 100. On the second tab of the palette, choose Watermelon_pips.bmp from the drop down list under New Pattern Source. Flood Fill the selection with this pattern.
9. Go to Image/Effect/Inner Bevel and select Melon from the drop down list. Apply the bevel.
Your Watermelon Text is complete!
