Little Pink Piggy Tutorial
Ellipse for body 1. Create a new layer below Face Shadow. Name it "Body". Set your foreground colour to black & your background colour to the original light pink you used for the head. Choose the Shape tool. Use Shape Type Ellipse, Style Stroked & Filled, Line Width 1, Antialias checked & Create as Vector unchecked. Draw a large ellipse on your canvas.
Bevelled Body 2. Choose the Selection tool. Press CTRL+A to select your whole canvas. Click anywhere within the canvas. The ellipse will now be selected. If you want, you can use the airbrush set to a size of about 20 with a dark grey colour to make some patches on your pig. When you have it to your liking, go to Image/Effects/Inner Bevel & apply the same bevel as before.
Creating a Vector Ellipse 3. Select the Shapes Tool. Keep the settings as before, except this time we are going to work with vectors a bit, so tick the Create as Vector box. Draw a medium sized ellipse in front of the pigs body.
Node Editing a Vector Ellipse 4. Click on the Vector Object Selection Tool Vector Object Selection. Right click on your vector ellipse & choose Node Edit from the menu that appears. Click on one of the middle squares. A line appears with a arrow head at one end and a circle at the other. Click on the arrow head and drag it outwards a little - you'll see that the ellipse curves inwards. Click on the circle and drag that outwards too. Click on the middle square again and pull it a little inwards to narrow the ellipse. Repeat on the other side. You should be left with a figure 8 or peanut shape! Click on the Object Selection tool again to come out of Node editing.
The legs 5. In the layers palette, right-click on the vector layer we have just created and choose Convert to Raster. Name this layer "Front Legs". Press CTRL+C to copy the leg & CTRL+E to paste as a new selection. Press CTRL+M to mirror the selection & place it where you want. Press CTRL+D to drop the selection.
Pig with LEgs 6. Repeat step 2 on the legs. Go to Selections/Modify/Contract and contract the selection by 1. Create a new layer beneath Front Legs named "Leg Shadow". Go to Image/Effects/Drop Shadow and apply a drop shadow with the same settings that we used before.
Making the Feet 7. Click on the Shape Tool. Change the Shape Type Rounded Rectangle, but keep all the other settings the same. Set your background colour to a light grey - I used #C0C0C0.Draw a small rectangle at the bottom of one leg. Hold down the CTRL button and click on the top left-hand square outlining the vector shape. Drag the square inwards a little to skew the rectangle.
Pig Trotter 8. In the Layers Palette, right-click on the vector layer & choose Convert to Raster. Name this layer "Feet". Make sure that this layer is below the layer named Front Leg. Click on the Line Tool. Keeping the settings the same as before, draw a small vertical line on the hoof to make it look more like a pigs foot.
Almost completed pig 9. Press CTRL+C to copy the foot & CTRL+E to paste it as a new selection. Position the second foot below the second leg. Select both feet and apply the bevel as before.
Positioning the Feet 10. Almost finished! Duplicate the layers named Feet and Front Legs by making the desired layer active & going to Layers/Duplicate. Drag the newly created layers, Copy of Feet and Copy of Front Legs to behind the layer named Body. Press SHIFT+S to bring up the resize dialogue box. Ensure that Resize all Layers is not checked, & resize both layers by 80%. Using the Selection Tool position the resized feet & the resized legs so that both are just visible from under the pig.
Completed Pig Your Pig is now complete! Try adding some grass and flowers to finish it off.
