Moo Cow Tutorial
This tutorial is very similar to my Pink Piggy Tutorial the primary differences being the shape of the face and the extra detail.
White Ellipse 1. Create a new image, 400x400 pixels, with a transparent background. Set your foreground colour to black & your background colour to white. Choose the Shape tool. Use Shape Type Ellipse, Style Stroked & Filled, Line Width 1, Antialias checked & Create as Vector checked. Draw an ellipse on your canvas.
2. Click on the Vector Object Selection Tool Vector Object Selection. Right click on your vector ellipse & choose Node Edit from the menu that appears. Click on one of the middle squares. A line appears with a arrow head at one end and a circle at the other. Click on the arrow head and drag it outwards a little - you'll see that the ellipse curves inwards. Click on the circle and drag that outwards too. Click on the middle square again and pull it a little inwards to narrow the ellipse. Repeat on the other side. Click on the bottom square. A Hozizontal arrow appears. Drag the arrowhead to the left and the little circle to the right. Click on the Vector Object Selection Tool again and you ellipse should now look a little like below.

3. In the layers palette, right-click on the vector layer we have just created and choose Convert to Raster. Name this layer "Head".
Drawing the Cow's ear 4. Select the Line Tool. Choose Type Freehand Line, Style Stroked & Filled, Width 1, Antialias Checked, Create as Vector & Close Path unchecked. It may help to zoom in on the image for this bit. Start the line just within the edge of the ellipse & draw an "ear" shape - sort of 2 an "s"'s on their side, as shown adjacent. Repeat this on the other side.
Filling in the ear 5. Now change your background colour to a light pink - I used #F2BAD7. Draw a little curved line on the cow's ear - because we have the Style set to Stroked & Filled a little patch of pink will be filled in under the curve.
Patched Cow 6. Choose the Selection Tool. Press CTRL+A to select the whole layer. Click anywhere on the canvas & the cows head should be selected. Click on the Airbrush Tool. Set the Size to 20, Opacity to 55, Hardness to 0, Step to 25 and Denisty to 100. Draw some patches on your cow. Don't drop the selection.
7. Go to Image/Effects/Inner Bevel & apply a bevel as shown below. Drop the selection when you have applied the bevel.

Your cow so far 8. Create a new layer named "Nose". Select the Line Tool. Choose Type Freehand Line, Style Stroked, Width 1, Antialias Checked, Create as Vector & Close Path unchecked. Draw a little dot with a curved line for each nostril. Your image should look something like this so far.
Airbrush Settings 9. Create a new layer named "Eyes" above the other layers. Click on the Shape Tool. Keep all the sttings the same as before, except change Style to Filled & uncheck Create as Vecor. To keep the eyes identical, we'll draw one eye & copy it. Draw a small ellipse for an eye. Next, set your foreground colour to white. Select the Airbrush Tool & use the settings shown adjacent. Draw a little spot of highlight on your black ellipse. Press CTRL+C to copy the ellipse. Press CTRL+E to paste the ellipse as a new selection. Position it next to the first.
Cow Eyes 10. Click on the Selection Tool. Press CTRL+A to select the whole layer. Click on the eyes to select them. Create a new layer beneath Eyes named "Eye Shadow". Contract the selection by 1 again. Go to Image/Effects/Drop Shadow. Make Color Black, Opacity 100, Blur 10, Vertical 0, Horizontal 0. Apply the shadow. Press CTRL+D to drop the selection.
Cow With Hair 11. Create a new layer above all the others named "Hair". Set your background color to black. Select the Line Tool. Choose Type Freehand Line, Style Stroked & Filled, Width 1, Antialias Checked, Create as Vector & Close Path unchecked. In the second tab of the tool dialogue box, ensure that the Curve Tracking is set to a low number, 1 works fine. Draw a spiky patch of hair on your cows head.
12. Click on the Selection Tool. Press CTRL+A to select the whole layer. Click on the hair to select it. Go to Image/Effects/Inner Bevel and apply a bevel with the settings shown below. Drop the selection once the bevel has been applied.

Cow horns 13. Create a new layer beneath the layer named Head. Name it Horns. Set your background colour to a light grey - I used #C0C0C0. Using the same settings as before, draw a horn shape with the Line Tool. Press CTRL+C to copy it, CTRL+E to paste the copy as a new selection & CTRL+M to mirror the selection. Position the horns as required. Select both horns and apply the bevel from step 7.
Cow with drop shadow 14. Merge the layers now by going to Layers/Merge/ Merge Visible. Rename the single layer "Face". Click on the Selection Tool. Press CTRL+A to select the whole layer. Click on the face to select it. Create a new layer beneath Face named "Face Shadow". Contract the selection by 1. Go to Image/Effects/Drop Shadow. Make Color Black, Opacity 100, Blur 10, Vertical 0, Horizontal 0. Apply the shadow. Press CTRL+D to drop the selection.
Your cow's face is now completed. Click on the link below to make the body.
